UPI QR Code Decoder: Read It Before You Pay

Updated 8 October 2026 · 5 minute read

Someone in a chat sends a UPI QR code or payment link and asks you to pay. Paste its text here and the decoder shows who would be paid, how much and what the note says, then lists anything odd. It cannot tell you whether a payee is honest.

An invented example is loaded. Paste your own over it. Most QR scanner apps can show the text without opening it. Nothing you paste leaves your device.

Try an example:
₹999the link would ask you to send
unlock.help@paytmthe UPI ID that would be paid
Account Unlockthe name typed into the link (nobody checks it)

3things worth a second look

This is a request that asks your account to pay ₹999 to “Account Unlock” (unlock.help@paytm). It would take money from you, not bring any in. It also finds a request that takes money from you, wording about money coming in and a service-desk word in the UPI ID.

A UPI payment link, or the text a QR code holds, begins upi://pay? and continues with short named parts joined by &. The ones that matter are pa, the UPI ID that gets the money, pn, a name, am, an amount in rupees, and tn, a note. The decoder splits them out, explains each, and writes one sentence you can act on. It reads text only and never contacts a bank, an app or anyone else. A code in the Bharat QR format starts 000201 and is not a upi:// link, so the decoder says so instead of guessing. Open that code in your UPI app and compare the name it shows with who you meant to pay.

At the time of writing (8 October 2026), the Wallet tab on Raxi Win’s page had Deposit and Withdraw buttons and two history lists. We opened no deposit or withdrawal screen, so we know nothing about the platform’s payment methods. What holds for any platform is this: a QR code or link that reaches you in a chat, an ad or a comment comes from whoever sent it, not from the platform’s page.

Five invented payments, decoded

None of these payees exists. The points come from running the decoder on each. The page opens on row two.

Invented paymentWhat the decoder findsPointsLevel
Shop bill: priya.stores@oksbi, “Priya Stores”, ₹349, note “Order 1182”nothing odd0Low
Collect request: unlock.help@paytm, “Account Unlock”, ₹999, note “Release your balance”a request that takes money out (55), wording about money coming in (30), a service-desk word in the ID (12)97High
rewards.desk@okhdfcbnk, “Rewards Desk”, ₹250an ending one letter off @okhdfcbank (35), an ID dressed as a service desk (30), wording about money coming in (30)95High

Under 20 points is Low, 20 to 49 is Medium and 50 or more is High. The last row shows the gap in a checker that reads text only. A person’s name on a mobile number reads Low because it is an ordinary, honest-looking shape, and a stranger can use the same shape. The decoder reports what the text shows. It cannot see who holds the number.

Two rows worth a closer look

Row two is a collect request. It asks your account to pay, whatever the sender calls it, and it shows up inside your UPI app as a request, not as money arriving. Approve only a request you started.

Row three shows why the ending is worth reading. A real ending such as @okhdfcbank can be copied with one letter changed, and a quick glance passes it.

Two things no flag can show

First, the name inside a link is typed by whoever made it, and nobody checks it. Your UPI app shows its own name for the UPI ID on the confirm screen, taken from the bank’s side. If the two differ, stop before the PIN. Second, receiving money never needs a scan, a link or a PIN. Every one of those sends money out.

How to use it

  1. Get the text without paying. Many QR scanners show it with a copy option before they open a payment app. If yours jumps straight to one, close it.
  2. Paste the text, or a whole message, into the box.
  3. Read the opening sentence, then the signs listed under it.
  4. Compare the name your UPI app shows with who you meant to pay.

If you have already paid

Call your bank straight away to block the UPI ID, call 1930, the national cyber-fraud helpline, and report it at cybercrime.gov.in. After a scam lists the steps in order. For a deposit that has not shown up, the deposit guide says what to gather. The scam message checker reads the words that came with the link, and the link checker reads ordinary web addresses. More are on the tools page.

A link from a chat comes from whoever sent it. The button opens the platform’s own page instead; read its address bar first.

Common questions

Can I check the payee of a Raxi Win deposit here?

Only a link or QR text that is in your hands. We opened no deposit screen, so we do not know how the platform takes payments or what payee name it shows. The decoder tells you where a link would send money and what looks odd about it. Whatever your own screen says on its confirm step is the check that counts.

Does a Low reading mean I can go ahead and pay?

No. Low means the text held none of the signs the decoder looks for. A person’s name on a mobile number reads Low, and so does a plain shop bill, because both are ordinary shapes. The decoder adds points only when something is off, such as a company-style name on a mobile number. Compare the name your UPI app shows with who you meant to pay.

What does a link that sets up a standing instruction do?

It lets the payee take money from your account again and again, within the limits and dates your UPI app shows on its approval screen. The decoder adds 30 points for the word mandate. Approve one only if you set it up yourself, such as a monthly plan you chose.

At what amount does the decoder start to worry?

At ₹10,000 it adds 15 points, and at ₹1,00,000 it adds 30. Those thresholds are the tool’s own and not a rule of any bank. A big sum alone never makes a link High, but beside other signs it can tip one over.

Why is a bank ending that is one letter off worth 35 points?

Copying a real ending with one letter changed is an old trick, because the eye reads @okhdfcbnk as @okhdfcbank. The decoder knows a list of real endings, and its list can be out of date, so an unknown ending is a note and a one-letter miss is the stronger signal.

Is a QR code on a screenshot as risky as a link?

Yes, they are the same thing. A QR code is the text of a link drawn as a picture, so scanning one sent to you in a chat has the same effect as tapping the link. Use a scanner that shows the text before it opens anything, paste the text here, and never approve a payment just to see where a code leads.
